Relief is in Sight for Sensitive Teeth
What a shock it can be when we forget about having sensitive teeth and we take a bite of ice cream or drink a cold beer. The sharp pain and continuing throbbing for minutes afterwards seems unbearable. Just how thirst quenching can it be to drink a long tall glass of luke warm water or try to enjoy a bowl of melted warm ice-cream. Do not suffer any further - help is on the way. First you need to have a dentist look at your sensitive teeth to make sure there is not a more serious problem like an unhealthy nerve or abscess growing. Once it has been established by your dentist that nothing medical or serious is wrong there are many choices you can make to relieve the problem. The Causes and Relief for Dentin Hypersensitivity
Many times the gums have receded, due to aging and/or gum infection, leaving the root exposed.
Another reason for teeth to become sensitive may be due to microscopic cracks in the enamel due to years of contracting and expanding when in contact with extreme cold and hot. The enamel on our teeth and the gums surrounding them serve as insulation to protect the tooth nerves. Once your dentist has examined your sensitive teeth he can suggest help. There are many brands of special toothpaste and mouth rinses which contain desensitizing agents and/or protective coatings. There is also a treatment available of fluoride varnish. This is a thin coating of resin which your dentist can apply to the surface of your tooth. Fluoride treatments are also a commonly used cavity-prevention aid. Fluoride varnish is an inexpensive treatment, as well as painless and time efficient to have performed. Pain and discomfort from dentin hypersensitivity, sensitive teeth, should be a thing of the past.
