Dental Implants in the 21st Century

Replacing your natural teeth has come a long way with modern dental practices since George Washington had his wood dentures whittled for him. Dental implants are by far the most desirable way to go. Esthetically they look and feel like our natural teeth. Dental implants do not compromise the adjacent teeth and the increased measure of confidence with having implants versus wearing dentures is a no brainer. No paste and/or glue to deal with, no chance of loosing or misplacing permenant implants and no chance your teeth will come out in public when you are eating corn on the cob or maybe just laughing or sneezing.

Two Types of Dental Implants

The endosteal method of implant is the most commonly used. A post, cylinder or blade is surgically placed into the jawbone. This serves as an artificial root which fuses with the jawbone and forms a new root and strong foundation for the artificial tooth or bridge. For patients who have minimal bone height the subperiosteal method is when posts are are placed on top of the jaw with the metal posts protruding through the gum. The natural looking enameled tooth is then formed to match your remaining teeth and secured on the post. There is no way to distinguish between your implant and your natural teeth. You may even forget which is which in time.

Dental implants are the natural way to replace lost teeth. You may have one, several teeth or all of your teeth replaced with implants, Implants last for years and most often a lifetime. There is no odor as that which often develops from dentures. The implants look, feel and function like your natural teeth. No steak, cob of corn or rack of ribs will give you a problem again. Eat, smile and chew with confidence.
